Outdoor Game Challenge

View Details

The Challenge

Summer is the perfect time to play outdoor games with your friends and family. We challenge you to design and build an outdoor game that you can play in your yard or take to a park. Bonus if it is a game you can play and also maintain social distance!

What should I make?

You have complete freedom to make whatever game you want. Seriously, you can pretty much do whatever you want.

It just has to be a game that you made and that you can play outside.

Come up with something completely original or remix a game you already love.

When is it due?

You need to submit a picture of your design by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 14. Anyone who submits a photo of their design will be entered into a raffle to win a pizza party for their family.

How do I submit my design?

Upload a photo of your design to EL3 using the submission form below.

How do I make an outdoor game?

This is the first time I've designed an outdoor game using cardboard as well. I challenged myself to create a design too.

I really enjoy games where you toss something and either try to get into a hole or around something. These games are perfect for hanging out with other people.

I did some research and decided to make a ring toss game.

Here are the steps I followed. It could be a good starting point for your project.

  1. Identify a problem or what you want to make.
    1. I did a Google Image search for ring toss games.
  2. Come up with a plan. Draw out your plan or find an example and copy it.
  3. Measure out the pieces your need and make all your cuts before assembling.
  4. A piece of cardboard by itself can be weak. Think about how your can reinforce using layers and/or braces.
  5. Assemble your project and test it.
  6. Doesn't work? Repeat any of the necessary steps above.
